How has TV changed since 1989?

Vox Pop 1: I remember what TV was like before Sky came on – absolutely boring.

Vox Pop 2: Boring. There was only channels, like, 1-5.

Vox Pop 3: Before Sky, you had about five channels.
Vox Pop 4: No, less than that.
Vox Pop 3: Four channels.
Vox Pop 4: Less than that!
Vox Pop 3: Three channels!

Vox Pop 5: One game a week, I suppose.
Vox Pop 6: Sunday afternoons.
Vox Pop 5: The Big Match, was it?

Vox Pop 7: Was that it?! Oh…

Vox Pop 8: The screen going off at 11 o’clock and that would be it.

Vox Pop 9: Hahahaha. Very weak.

Vox Pop 10: Didn’t know any different, really, did you?

Vox Pop 11: I’d probably say you’d lost interest in TV for a while.

Vox Pop 1: I remember the very first day when the guy came to fit the satellite, suddenly the picture appeared. When he’s finished, we flicked through these channels and were, like, “Wow, news. Wow, movies.”

Vox Pop 10: Films.
Vox Pop 12: Cartoons, films, sport

Vox Pop 1: And suddenly having 30-odd, or maybe 50-odd channels. I can’t remember, there were so many at the time.

Vox Pop 13: Just so many channels. You just can pick what you want. There’s always something you will want to watch on.

Vox Pop 4: They’ve got it all.
Vox Pop 3: It’s is unbelievable. It’s brilliant.

Vox Pop 14: There is football 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It’s good.

Vox Pop 15: I think the rugby union coverage is absolutely first-class.

Vox Pop 12: I like the different sports around the world that they show. The Sky Sports coverage on just about everything you watch is fantastic.

Vox Pop 16: I like watching the kids’ channels.

Vox Pop 17: And documentaries as well.

Vox Pop 18: I like sci-fi, typical blokes’ stuff, really.

Vox Pop 15: Certainly, the quality of the documentaries are certainly worth the money that you pay.

Vox Pop 19: I always watch Sky News. Every 15-20 minutes, they repeat the news over, so you never miss anything.

Vox Pop 20: Prison Break, Lost.

Vox Pop 1: 24, wow.
Vox Pop 17: Yeah, it’s one of our favourites.
Vox Pop 1: Oh, man, what a programme.

Vox Pop 1: The best thing ever has got to be the Sky +. Who votes for Sky +? There you go, all thumbs up.
Vox Pop 17: And the baby.
Vox Pop 1: Oh yeah, and the baby.

Vox Pop 21: I know it’s because it’s running there and then, and you’re…
Vox Pop 22: It’s recording to the hard disk while you do it, and then you’re watching it from the hard disk…
Vox Pop 21: For someone like me, it’s amazing!

Vox Pop 5: Watch the game live here and then go home and watch it again.

Vox Pop 22: With the series link, they do it automatically for you.

Vox Pop 23: I didn’t actually know you could do that.
Vox Pop 24: Yeah, you can. I always do it, like Big Brother. You series link it, and then you don’t miss one.
Vox Pop 23: I didn’t know you could do that.

Vox Pop 12: The problem is trying to find time to work.
Vox Pop 10: Yeah, fitting work in around what we’ve recorded.

Vox Pop 11: I now have TV when I get home that I want to watch.

Vox Pop 1: Over the years, it has gradually changed, and it has obviously changed for the best, you know. More for the customer, for the viewer. And now HD, of course. You can’t beat HD. It’s the bomb, you know.

Vox Pop 21: I was a bit of a sceptic about the whole HD thing. But actually, Grant was showing me a few of the things and I do have to say, it looks amazing.

Vox Pop 25: I think Sky are very now and are very current.

Vox Pop 26: You feel part of the action.

Vox Pop 27: They’re the leading brand.

Vox Pop 28: They want to entertain us, and I think it works.

Vox Pop 29: Always new films, bang up to date, and just staying ahead of the game, really. Best sports and best action.

Vox Pop 30: It does seem like Sky are driving the step change towards HD TV.

Vox Pop 31: Really changed the way TV looks.

Vox Pop 1: You can see that Sky has always been a leader in technology. They have always been the first, which I think you guys should be proud of.
